I’m not a Wiccan but I’m seriously considering becoming one. I wouldn’t say it’s enlightening, but it seems beautiful, open minded and very earth orientated.
I don’t even want to answer the question about satanism because they are so different! Wiccans don’t believe in the devil so they don’t worship him.
And is religion really about achievement? No, it’s about belief. If I became Wicca I would do so because it looks like a religion with an appealing outlook on life.
Hello. I’m a Wiccan High Priestess and I’d like to answer your questions. First, Wicca is a religion and offers its adherents the same things that any other functional religion offers. We have spiritual communities, religious services, weddings, funerals and baby blessings, legal clergy who offer spiritual counseling, and more. We practice our religion for the same reasons others practice their religions. It allows us to access the Divine in a way that has meaning for us.
LaVeyan Satanism is about as far from Wicca as anything could be. Wicca is not in opposition to Christianity nor to any other religion. We do not believe in the same cosmytheology as the Christians do, and therefore would find no reason to acknowledge nor mention any being called Satan. We are called to our religion not to reject any other path, but because we are simply called. It is my understanding that LaVey Satanism is actually an Atheistic practice that uses the Christian idea of Satan and the cultural stories that go along with it to demostrate their opposition to the idea of authority. However, I’m not a Satanist, so I can’t be counted on to accurately portray what Satanists believe.
Wiccans of my tradition usually believe that the breath of the Divine is in all Nature, and that communing with Nature and natural forces offers us an opportunity to experience the Divine in a transformative and spiritually satisfying way. We also believe that the natural world extends beyond just what can be perceived by 5 senses, and many of us have some sort of extra sensory perceptive abilities. In traditional Wicca, some spell working is taught along with the religious teachings, and this spell work is used to heal, bring about positive change, and the like. There are some eclectic practitioners who identify with the moniker of Wicca who state that spell work is not part of Wicca. It definitely is part of traditional Wicca, however. We DO NOT use spell work to harm people or to control them.
Wicca teaches us that there are natural laws of balance in the Universe and that the energy that we put out through our thoughts, actions, and emotions will emanate throughout our world and also affect us in a very personal way. We do not believe in breaking oaths and do not bear false witness, as we believe that this is spiritually contaminating to us and disrespectful of others. We believe that animals have souls and many of us are vegetarian. At the very least, we strive to be responsible consumers and only give our money to businesses that respect the Earth and do not use cruel or irresponsible business practices (such as strip mining, animal testing, etc.).
What do we hope to gain from practicing our religion? We gain community, joyous celebration of the cycle of life, deeper understanding of what it means to be human, and communion with the Divine.
Wicca is not about achieving enlightenment. Wicca is about relationships. Relationship with deity; relationship with the natural world; relationship with yourself; and relationship with others. The goal is to perfect and balance those relationships in order to achieve harmony by living in accord with the Rede which teaches us to consider the consequences of our actions.
Wicca is different from LaVeyan Satanism in the same manner that Christianity is different from LaVeyan Satanism. They are different religions. Not sects of the same religion.
What do you hope to achieve? See paragraph 1
The purpose of practicing Wicca is that it is my religion… it is the way I express my spirituality and relate to the Higher Power; it’s tenets help guide me in life, which teach me to use my head, find a healthy balance in all things, and take personal responsibility for myself at all times.
There are several key differences:
- Satanists are generally atheists; Satan is a symbol or seen as the force of nature
- Wiccans are theists; we believe in a God and Goddess (if not many)
- Satanists adopt an eye-for-an-eye morality
- Wiccans believe in working towards legally acceptable justice, but learning to heal, let go and move on
- Satanists believe man’s nature is strictly carnal
- Wiccans believe there is a mind-body-spirit connection that needs to be in balance
Just off the top of my head.
What do I hope to achieve from Wicca?– What does a Jew hope to achieve from Judaism? Or a Christian hope to achieve from Christianity? I hope to become closer to my Gods and live a good, moral life.
Some people would agree that the purpose of all religion is to enlighten themselves, but this depends opn ones own perception. The purpose of Wicca is whatever the adherent believes it to be- spiritual satisfaction, enlightenment, worshipping the Lord and Lady, ect. In my practice as a Witch, I find Spiritual satisfaction. My connection with the Lady, the Earth, and just plain life is enough for me. LeVey Satanism has 13 Satanic Princibles, and they hounour the Christian Satan as the primal force of human nature-not as a big bad boogieman, but instead an important and neccesary part of human nature. You might want to research LeVey Satanism to clear up misconceptions about sacrificing animals and driking their blood-one of their rules is that animals NOT be killed other that the purpose of food or protection. I hope this clears up any misconceptions, and inspires you to do research on tough subjects like this. Blessed Be.
